In nondestructive testing, industrial imaging applications such as wheel inspection and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), the size of the digital detector array (DDA), also known as a flat panel detector, used in an inspection system matters. The bigger the imaging area of a DDA, the more benefits for the system user. 

Using a larger field of view digital detector array can help reduce the space and volume of the X-ray inspection system on the factory floor by bringing the distance between the X-ray source and the DDA closer together.  A larger FOV detector can enable faster scanning times, better throughput, and better resolution images at a lower dose. Customers can also save time and money.  With these benefits in mind, Varex Imaging has designed a family of large FOV detectors for our industrial imaging customers. These detectors include the 4343HE and XRD 1611 for high-energy imaging applications and the 4343CT optimized for CBCT scanning.

The 4343HE, designed for high-dose and high-energy applications (greater than 1 MRad), can be used at a wide energy range (20 kV - 16 MV).  The electronics are outside of the detector’s active area allowing the integrator to provide additional external shielding of the electronics for use above 225 kV.

The XRD 1611 xP is our highest resolution digital detector designed for industrial imaging systems that require continuous and real-time inspections to be performed. For these imaging systems, our XRD 1611 xP features a 100µm pixel pitch for enhanced image quality, and offers high dynamic range and image contrast. The 16-bit contrast and high spatial resolution help professionals detect even subtle flaws and inconsistencies in materials caused either in the manufacturing process or through fatigue.

XRD 4343CT provides imaging for low-dose nondestructive testing, CBCT, metrology, and scientific applications. The XRD 4343CT offers 150µm pixel resolution, is our fastest detector, offers frame rates of 15fps at full 3k resolution, supports energy levels up to 225 kV, and is available with several scintillator options.
